1. Caps and Smartfones

How do I load electrode locations to my processing tool from a recorded EEG file?

Our standard EEG caps follow the 10-20 method of applying the location of scalp electrodes. For example, if the electrode is labeled "Fp1" its location on the cap is always the same, no matter which system you're using.

You can use any pre-defined 10-20 layout in your EEG processing software, as long as it contains all electrodes from your layout.

Here's some layouts we use:

  1. EEGLAB: Standard-10-20-Cap81.ced

  2. MNE/MNElab: easycap-M1 layout
  3. FieldTrip: easycapM1.mat

Different layout models in these tools have to do with the head model, like shape or size, so this is something you can investigate and find what suits you best. If you have a custom layout, or use Smartfones/cEEGrids contact us at support@mbraintrain.com for help.
